David Lynch's "Blue Velvet" @ Hollywood Forever Cemetery (05/31/25)

Soundtrack for this Adventure:

"Blue Velvet" by Lana Del Rey

It's quite hard to put into words how I found myself watching David Lynch's crazy, sexy, cool cult classic motion picture, "Blue Velvet", in a graveyard of all places on this day. What started as a Cinespia email... turned into a bonding moment with a co-worker... which evolved into a last-minute friend request in the early morning hours before the doors opened.  Someone needed me to be in attendance and I'm still not sure why.

If you read my Lost Years of 2009 & 2010 blurb, you'd know that I had a chance to meet the late-great legendary film auteur at the LA Times Festival of Books and get his meaningful "Catching The Big Fish" book signed in person. That memory blooms even more beautifully now that David Lynch no longer with us. This film buff always dug some of his projects like Mulholland Drive, Inland Empire, Twin Peaks, and Blue Velvet. Yet I always admired David Lynch as a director. His out-of-this-universe concepts & ideas challenged mainstream media appeal to create deep fingerprint moments for his cult of personality.

"Blue Velvet" might be the best film entry point for his dark twisted, true to life, tales to take hold as I haven't forgotten the raw intensity we watched at the graveyard. The fact we were 100ish feet from David Lynch's resting place made this Cinespia Special Event even more haunting. My buddy - "30 Deep" - and I found a great spot in the back to drink PBR, eat Apple Pie, chow down on Pretzels & Popcorn in the middle of noisy Hollywood.

Cinespia does an amazing job with their yearly cinematheque series. Always providing great films, vendors, and haunting ambiance. Just know, you have to get their early to get a close seat. We didn't care much for that so we arrived a little late. Made getting inside a breeze! Be sure to keep an eye on their newsletters for the latest updates. Their film selections are some of the best.

Still quite unsure what purpose I was suppose to have upon returning home? Was it to hang with a lifelong friend? To report back to my former co-worker? Or something else? My confusing irony probably makes perfect sense to David Lynch... cause he believed life's not suppose to, you know? Something to chew on as you experience my personal photos below! Thanks for reading!
