Netsky, HAIM, & J. Cole @ Air + Style 2016

This year’s LA portion of the Snowboarding + Music Festival… better known as Air + Style… came outta nowhere. Can’t wait until Air + Style grows into bigger beast with even more 5 star acts. This really helped build a buzz by bringing out HAIM, J. Cole, Incubus, and many other established & fresh talents (that I really didn’t care about =). Sure I could’ve done without the stunt portion, but it certainly did kill time between sets.
The festival crew of Downtown LA structured the festival better than the annual FYF Fest (which takes place in the shadow of the LA Coliseum & Sports Arena). The entrance was at reasonable location, plenty of room around the stages, and they gave VIP their own – equal – section. Color me impressed.
J. Cole put on amazing show. That’s why I made the drive. He peppered his 2014 Forest Hill Dr. tracks with selects from his discography. Loved everything from Born Sinner. He even brought out labelmate, Bas, and they played a few of their new buzzworthy singles like Night Job.
Watch J. Cole’s “Power Trip” & “Fire Squad” because they were brutally awesome.
Always wanted to HAM to HAIM, but the lack of new material seemed to shed off their onstage personal attitudes. The girls of HAIM are wonderfully skilled musicians. Can’t deny that. But I wanted NEW MUSIC! Days Are Gone (shameless plug) came out almost 3 years ago. They did inject their Calvin Harris collaboration – “Pray To God” – at the end, still aged-stale set list.
Netsky was like the best cover EDM artist. Other people’s tracks, remixed, and redubbed with non-pirated vocals. Similar feels. You don’t go see EDM artists for a deep experience, just a fun one. Always tell myself, “Remember to dance a little, don’t be weird.”
