Showcase: Slaughterhouse @ The Fonda Theatre (04/06/12)

Slaughterhouse @ The Fonda [04/06/12]

Shady 2.0’s rap dream team made an impromptu stop in Hollywood, transforming the historic newly reformed Fonda Theatre into a Slaughterhouse!

Our exclusive highlights, #afterthebreak

(re-edited: 11/11/2023)

Seeing how I’m writing this entry almost a week after the event, it seems kind of pointless of reviewing every aspect of show in our normal fashion.   So here are my two cents with our favorite pictures.

My two cents:

I have grown up listening to all four of Slaughterhouse‘s founding members — Joe BuddenCrooked IJoell Ortiz, and Royce Da 5’9″.   From their solo stuff, mixtapes, EPs, and newly released Shady 2.0 repackaging, I totally agree with other critics saying they are the four most underrated rappers in the game today.  So, going into the show was expecting something entirely different: raw, rugged, and something mirroring a hardcore underground rap show (e.g. Yelawolf). What we got was “The Slaughterhouse Comedy & Rap Show”.

Don’t misunderstand still got “Hammer Dance”, “ Microphone”, “The One”, but wasn’t expecting their partials of “Shady 2.0Cypher”, some “Bad Meets Evil” minus Eminem, with all the funny bits in between.  They are not many rap shows I leave with a smile on my face.

Thanks to us, watch a ‘high’ Budden singing Bruno Mars’ “Lighters” hook with Royce’s verse.  You can hear me laughing in the background.

(Lighters)

The best part of the show was when they split the crowd in factions performing their hometown anthems. We were on team Royce and got to represent Detroit with “Lose Yourself”.  That didn’t stop the near sold out Fonda from going acoustic with Eminem’s Oscar awarding track.   A sight and sound that gave me chills.  Andyes, Crooked I’s “Dr. Dre / Snoop / Nate Dogg” tribute made us ‘Westsiders‘ throw up the sign.

Still don’t know what to make of the four (!!!) opening acts.  Too many.  We were all chatting for Slaughterhouse by the end of performance #2.  Don’t really need to review them.  All forgettable. Wish I could tell you their names, but I haven’t found any instance in which anyone picked them out.  Got a few pictures but in the end, just wasted my battery.

My only complaint is– there wasn’t any new material.  Boo.  Now that would’ve made this showcase super special instead of playing “Hammer Dance” twice.

Concert Rating [Out of 5]:

☆☆☆

Pros: Amazing performers, Entertaining, Nostalgic, Incredible Crowd Interaction.

Cons: Underwhelming Openers, No New Material, For Hardcore Fans Only.

Thanks to the Fonda for hosting us.  Welcome To: Our House (Prod. By Eminem) drops on June 12th. It’s going to be shady summer man!  Stay tuned for all the drips.

Enjoy the media below or Bye Rihanna!

Photographer’s Notes:

  • Nikon Coolpix P90
  • Canon Powershot S100 [Videos]

Happy with how everything came out.  Wish the Powershot had a little bit more range, but the videos were still fantastic.
